IT firm HR manager arrested for raping, blackmailing

The cops have arrested an HR manager of an IT firm on the charges of raping his colleague and blackmailing her over a period of time.

Police have also arrested the younger brother of the accused for his alleged involvement in the incident. It was learnt that both the accused were originally from Jharkhand and had been staying at New Town for nearly three years. The accused have been identified as Ajit Singh and Amarjit Singh.

Police came to know in the investigation that Ajit had been in a physical relationship with one of his colleague for the past three years and had assured her of marriage.

A few days ago when the woman asked him to marry her, the accused started black mailing saying that he would upload some video clippings on social networking sites. A quarrel broke out between the victim and the accused after the later refused to marry her after continuing a relationship for nearly three years. The accused also told the victim to forget about their relationship. When she insisted him on marrying her, the accused started blackmailing her. The accused also demanded money, car and a flat from the victim and threatened her saying that on failure to provide the aforementioned, he would make video clippings public.

The victim finally decided to lodge a complaint with the police and went to the New Town Police station on Thursday to register a complaint against the accused. The victim has also mentioned in her complaint that Ajit's younger brother Amarjit too molested her. The victim also mentioned to the police that she had been threatened of dire consequences if she registers a compliant with the police. On the basis of the complaint, the New Town police have arrested the two accused brothers from their residence on late Thursday night and are conducting a probe in this connection.

In another incident, the Cyber Crime department of the Kolkata Police have arrested one Firoz Khan for uploading objectionable pictures by creating a fake profile of a woman in a social networking site after she refused his marriage proposal. Police have seized the mobile phone of the accused and have sent it for forensic examination. The victim told the police that the accused had been making marriage proposals to her for quite sometime now. As she refused to accept his proposal, the accused threatened her to malign her image on social networking sites. He also created a fake WhatsApp account after buying a new SIM and uploaded photographs of the victim.
