IT dept bats for digital marketing as career option in districts

Kolkata: The state Information Technology (IT) department is working on making digital marketing a career option in the districts of Bengal as they feel the area will have enormous job potential in days to come.
"Most of the companies are adopting a focused and planned digital marketing strategy for capturing a growing and very lucrative online marketplace. Business and commerce are heading towards digital marketing or publicity tools and techniques as they provide business owners the best chances for competition, survival and even business growth. So, we feel that this could be an area in which small groups particularly the youth could work on," a senior official of the state IT department said.
It may be mentioned that a number of companies are changing their business models to online ones as they feel it can attract a targeted audience that spells the difference between a successfully thriving business – and a failed one.
The IT department's honorary advisor Ambarish Dasgupta is preparing a concept note on how the state may make digital marketing a career option in the districts of Bengal, after being prodded by the Additional Chief Secretary of the department Debashis Sen.
It may be noted that during the recent visit of Sen to the IT park in Santiniketan, two trainees doing a certificate course conducted by National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) came up to him and expressed interest in working with the state in digital marketing area.
The trainees were informed that Webel on behalf of the state has been conducting introductory workshops on Start-Ups throughout their 100 plus district units and inputs will be given in this regard at the IT Park in Santiniketan.
"We plan to have a series of workshops organised at the state level to usher in a proper eco-system in emerging trends in IT," Sen said.
The IT department has already fixed the calendar in this regard for the next quarter. Three workshops that are already lined up are: a workshop on Cyber Security on March 16, a workshop on Blockchain on April 13 and another on Artificial Intelligence on May 18.
