IT and Electronics dept plans to set up animation academy

Kolkata: The state IT and Electronics department is planning to set up an animation academy to train animation professionals.

The proposed academy will come up on an 8,500 square feet area in Sector V, Salt Lake which has been earmarked by Webel. The academy will train more than 300 animation professionals annually.
A notice inviting Expression of Interest has been issued recently inviting application from experienced partners.
Animation and Visual Effects (VFX) industry has exceptional promise of growth if it is supported by the latest technological advancements. It is steadily gaining acceptance. Many private institutes have come up in the city and suburbs where youth receive training in animation and visual effects and are getting absorbed in different places particularly Hyderabad and Bangalore. Senior officials of the department felt that if proper infrastructure and training can be given to the aspirants, then they will be able to rub their shoulders with the global counterparts. It is an expanding market but the professionals must have proper knowledge which need to be upgraded frequently. The venture is the first of its kind taken by the state government.
