Iron rod falls on woman's head at Howrah Station

Kolkata: A woman suffered serious injuries after an iron angle rod, which was hanging from the roof at the platform number 1 at Howrah railway station, fell on her on Monday morning.

She has been admitted to the Howrah District Hospital with head injury. According to sources, on Monday, around 7:40 am, Basura Begum of Keshabpur in Hooghly was waiting for her son at the entrance of platform number 1. Her son had gone to buy tickets for their trip to Arambag.

While waiting at the platform all of a sudden an iron angle rod fell on her. Other passengers immediately informed railway staff and she was

taken to the medical facility at the Howrah railway station. She was provided first aid and admitted to Howrah District Hospital by the Eastern Railway (ER) staff. Later, Divisional Railway Manager of ER, Howrah, Ishaq Khan instructed his subordinate officials to monitor her health condition and ensure proper medical care was given to her.

Following the instructions, doctors and staff of ER went to Howrah District Hospital. Later, she was shifted to B R Singh Hospital in Sealdah for treatment and at present various tests are being conducted on her. According to eyewitnesses, the iron angle rod was hanging from the roof since a few

days.

Railway staff were informed about the risk but no one bothered to look into the problem. Passengers alleged that the incident took place due to the negligence of the railway staff.

According to the ER spokesperson, an inquiry has been ordered into incident.

This apart, railway staff have been ordered to keep a check at the Howrah railway station to eradicate any problem which may lead to injury or loss of life.
