Irate people seek justice for 8-year-old Asifa, stage demonstrations in Kolkata, Howrah

Kolkata: Local people staged demonstration at certain places in the city and Howrah, protesting against the rape and murder of Asifa, an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.
The irate mob demanded exemplary punishment of the accused in this connection and also called for necessary steps by administration, to ensure that such an incident does not happen ever again.
People staged protests at Chengail station in the morning and Uluberia station in the afternoon.
There were also protest rallies in certain parts of the city, including Park Circus. Local people protested against the incident. The demonstrations continued for hours.
It may be mentioned here that the entire country has raised voice against the incident in unison and similar protests rallies have been taking place at various areas of the city for the past few days.
Trinamool Congress had also organised a rally in Kolkata last week, protesting against the incident of the gruesome rape and murder in Jammu and Kashmir. The rally had started from the statue of BR Amdebkar and ended at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Mayo Road.
In the protest rally, the party leaders and workers had raised their united voice against the different unconstitutional activities, which are taking place throughout the country.
The protest rally at Chengail station in Howrah led to disruption of train services on the Howrah-Kharagpur section of South Eastern Railway from 7.30 am. The train services became normal after the protest rally was withdrawn at 11.48 am.
A demonstration was again staged at Uluberia station in the afternoon. Many people who were passing through the area had also joined the rally and protested against the incident.
The protests led to detention of 19 Up and Down mail and express trains on their way. At the same time, five mail and express trains had to be re-scheduled.
Moreover, 28 pairs of suburban trains were cancelled and three suburban trains were short terminated. Hundreds of people were found taking part in the protest rallies.
