Interstate mobile-lifting gang busted, two arrested, phones seized

Kolkata: The watch section of the detective department of Kolkata Police busted an interstate mobile-lifting gang and arrested two persons who hail from Jharkhand in this connection.

The sleuths have recovered 23 pieces of android mobile phones suspected to be stolen from their possession.

The police conducted a search operation based upon credible source information on Tuesday morning and the two were arrested from Rampur, Govindapur, in Maheshtala police station area. "The two persons, identified as Mukesh Mahato (31) and Kalicharan Karmakar (20), are residents of Babupur village, under Rajmahal police station area , Sahebgunj district of Jharkhand. They are members of inter-state mobile lifting gang known as Tinpahari Gang. They were hiding at the residence of one Dibyendu Mandal of Rampur area from where they were nabbed," an investigating officer said. According to the official, the duo used to lift mobile phones in crowded places such as markets and metros moving in different cities including Kolkata.

The recovered mobile phones are being verified to fix up owner of the phones.

They will be produced at Alipore Court on Wednesday.

"We will take them in custody and grill them for further leads in the case," the official added.
