Inquiry committee finds serious lapses by hospital

Sanjay Roy’s family on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Health Department.

In the course of investigation carried out by the inquiry committee formed by the state Health department to probe into the alleged detention of Sanjay Roy by the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, some serious lapses by the hospital were found.

The members of the inquiry committee of the Health department came to know from the SSKM doctors that the patient had died due to excessive bleeding.

It may be mentioned here that Sanjay was taken to the SSKM Hospital at a time when the doctors there virtually failed to save his life due to excessive bleeding.

It was alleged that the doctors of Apollo Gleneagles even failed to identify the area where the victim had been bleeding from.

The members of the inquiry committee also found that the doctors in the private hospital failed to treat the spot of the bleeding that had ultimately led to his death.

The family members of Sanjay Roy on Thursday visited the senior officials of the Health department at Swasthya Bhavan and lodged a written complaint in this regard.

The victim's husband, Ruby Roy on Wednesday had given statements before the inquiry committee and provided some important information relating to the treatment of the patient.

With the progress of investigation, the committee has found that some tests were unnecessarily conducted on the patient. Even the patient's family members were charged arbitrarily against some of the tests. It was also learnt that inquiry committee has prepared a supplementary report on the incident on the basis of its observation which would soon be submitted to the Director of Health Service.

In another development, a police officer on Thursday visited the hospital for the sake of investigation carried out by the police. A police case has been started against the hospital authorities after Ruby Roy lodged a complaint at the Phoolbagan police station. Police interrogated some of the senior officials of the hospital and sought some documents related to the treatment of the victim.
