Infant's body found wrapped in plastic sheet in North 24-Pgs

Kolkata: An infant's body was found under mysterious circumstances in North 24-Parganas's Deganga area on Thursday morning triggering panic among the local residents.

Some local residents spotted the body of an infant partially wrapped in a plastic sheet at Chawk Chandpur village in Deganga. They informed the matter to the local police station. Police reached the spot recovered the body. There were injury marks in various parts of his body. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that dogs or any other animals might have nibbled its body.

An eyewitness said that they found the plastic in the bush. When the local people reached the spot, they found it was the body of an infant partially wrapped in plastic. The villagers started congregating in the area. Police, later recovered the body.

The cause of the death is yet to be verified. The body has been sent for the postmortem examination. Police suspect that someone might have dumped the infant's body inside bush adjacent to a road.

Cops have started a detailed probe to find out who dumped the body.

The investigators are also probing to know if any child lifters are involved in the incident. The police are waiting for the postmortem report which will throw light on the nature of his death.
