Infant killed by her father at South Port
Kolkata: A three and a half month old girl was allegedly killed by her own father at Coal Berth Road in South Port area. The accused, identified as Md Raju, has been arrested.
According to sources, Raju was married to a woman six years ago. After a few years his wife gave birth to a girl child and died due to some illness three years later.
Following his wife's death, Raju married another woman identified as Afsari Begum. After marrying her, he reportedly said that he wants her to give birth to a boy, as he did not want another girl child. The issue led to altercations on several occasions.
Approximately three and a half months ago, Begum gave birth to a girl child, after which Raju got angry and started torturing her. Raju even told her that he hated their newborn girl. Sensing danger, Begum used to keep the baby girl with her always. On Wednesday morning, Raju started beating Begum over the same issue and all of a sudden, he picked up the baby from her bed and threw her on the same place where she was sleeping. Despite Begum trying to protect her baby, Raju pushed her aside and kept on throwing the three and a half month old baby. He even broke all her limbs and left the baby on the bed.
Hearing her scream, Raju's mother Anwara Begum ran to her and saw the baby. Immediately, both Anwara and Afsari rushed the baby to SSKM Hospital, where the girl was declared brought dead. In the evening, Afsari lodged a complaint at South Port police station against Raju. Later, police went to his house and arrested him.
