Income Tax officers from Mumbai named in FIR for heckling Kolkata businessman

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has lodged an FIR against a few Income Tax officers from Mumbai, for allegedly assaulting a businessman in Kolkata in a bid to extort confession from him.

According to sources, on December 4 a team from Income Tax, Mumbai led by a senior official conducted a raid at the office of a businessman identified as Utsav Tulshyan of 6, Lyons Range in Hare Street area.

It has been alleged that during the raid, the six Income Tax officials asked Tulshyan to confess something and give a written statement in that connection.

However, Tulshyan reportedly refused to sign on the statement as the Income Tax officials failed to find any

irregularities regarding his dealings.

After his denial, the Income Tax officials allegedly slapped him and threatened the employees of his office. They also allegedly hurled expletives at Tulshyan and his employees.

One of the Income Tax officials was seen slapping the businessman in a CCTV footage. However, when Tulshyan stuck to his decision not to sign or confess anything, the Income Tax officials left the office.

On December 6, Tulshyan lodged a complaint at Hare Street police station against the accused Income Tax officials and an FIR was subsequently initiated.

Sources have informed that though the FIR has been filed on the basis of Tulshyan's complaint, not much progress has taken place in the case so far.

A senior Kolkata Police official on Thursday stated that

the investigation is in the

preliminary stage and the probe is being carried out accordingly.
