In Ward 17, special drive to focus on clearing garbage

Kolkata: A special drive to clear garbage is being carried out in Ward 17 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in North Kolkata.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked all the Councillors to focus on civic issues in their respective areas and cooperate with the civic authorities to provide better services. There are many lanes and bylanes in Ward 17 and some residents have a tendency to throw garbage on the street.
For effective garbage removal, Mohan Kumar Gupta, Trinamool Congress Councillor has taken up an awareness campaign.
He held meetings with authorities of local schools and residents of multi-storeyed buildings in Aurobindo Sarani.
Civic officials said most of the streets in the city are swept twice a day. Compactors are installed throughout the city for effective solid waste management but some people have a habit of throwing garbage on the roads.
Gupta said the campaign will continue to request the residents to change this habit.
