In a first, state to host Conventions India Conclave at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre

Kolkata: For the first time, Bengal will be hosting the Conventions India Conclave (CIC) at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre (BBCC) at New Town in the last week of August this year.
The Conclave which is stepping into its 11th edition this year has been witnessing participation from various states and industry organisations
from around the world and it will be no exception this year too.
The state government is hopeful that the Conclave will be a big boost, particularly to Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism in the state.
The India Convention Centre Bureau (ICPB), an apex body sponsored by the Union
Ministry of Tourism has been holding such a conclave with the objective of promoting the country as a competent and credible MICE destination.
The CIC has been held at
various other venues like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad but never in Bengal.
"The Bengal Global Business Summit 2018 was held for the first time at BBCC this year and the large foreign delegation who had come to attend the summit was impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure of the Convention Centre.
"A team from the ICPB visited the Centre recently and proposed to hold the CIC here," a senior official of West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) said.
In fact, HIDCO will be the Platinum Sponsor of the event.
"A number of delegates who will be attending the event will be accompanied by their families.
"The hotels and restaurants will see more occupancy and the tourist places across the state will also be visited by them. Hence, it will be a great opportunity for us to promote the state as a preferred tourist destination and showcase the transformation that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ushered in," a senior official of the state Tourism department said.
The 10th edition of the ICPB's flagship event CIC was organised in Hyderabad from August 29-31 last year.
