IIT KGP to hold Grand Step fest this month to explore mining options with robots

Kolkata: Did you know that bots can assist in deep mining without risking human lives or how the safety data analytics can help the mining industry? Are you aware of the latest innovations for industrial problems coming from learners of mining engineering?
The Great Step fest at IIT Kharagpur will introduce you to this exciting world of young mining engineers and their innovative ideation. The Technology Mining Engineering Society (TMES), Department of Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur is bringing "Geo Resource Engineering and Technology - Students, Teachers and Employers Partnership" from October 13 to 15.
The annual fest which has launched its first international edition this year has been well received among Southeast Asian and African students. Till date, 250 registrations have been considered from 20 universities. Students from across the country and abroad and from various disciplines connected with the Natural Resource Industries have shown active interest in this unique and focused Tech Fest.
The Summit will focus on channelising the immense talent and ingenuity of the students to solve challenging problems, build a coherent and strong rapport between employers and students and provide a platform for the students to interact with leaders of the Mining and allied industries.
Different events that are conducted in this Fest would include Geobotics – A Mining related robotics event, Case studies in Mining, Petroleum and Environment, Quiz events - Quiz Spiel and Mineac, Mineindite – Paper Presentations and Industrial Design Problem, and many more. The fest will also host the National Mining Innovation Challenge.
The US-based Master Geotech Services LLC, which is an associate of the fest, will be awarding three young high school students from the
Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Bhulinagar, Dhanbad for their efforts in creating a Mine Safety Robot with their own resources.
The inaugural event will be held on Friday at 6 pm at IIT Kharagpur.
