IIT-Kgp students get 118 pre-placement offers

Kolkata: It is not yet a week of the semester beginning at IIT Kharagpur and students are already bringing in the good news of placement with 118 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) from top companies.

As on August 11, Microsoft and Wipro have made the highest number of offers standing at 14, while Qualcomm has made 13, Samsung 12 and Texas Instruments 11.

Offers have also been received from ITC, Unilever and several more companies. The offers have been made both in core and non-core such as finance, software, analytics and consultancy.

"This is a great start for the placement season. PPOs generally constitute about 15 percent of the total number of placements and many more offers are in pipeline as the semester progresses," said Debasis Deb, Professor in-Charge of Career Development Centre at IIT Kharagpur. Students from the premier technology and engineering institute had undergone compulsory summer internships as part of

their curriculum during the months of May and June and these internships got matured in terms of the PPOs.

Students have got placed across all departments — Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences (Economics) and others.

"We are approaching several new companies along with firms who have visited us earlier and many have responded already. We are expecting 250 companies to visit us for placements in December," added Prof Deb.

The internship season at IIT Kharagpur is starting from August 12, 2017 with top companies participating like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Nomura, Citi, Texas Instruments among others.
