IIM Lucknow student's suicide shocks neighbourhood

Kolkata: The local people of Jodhpur Park area on Thursday expressed their shock over the suicide of Soham Mukherjee (25) who was a second year student of IIM Lucknow.

The deceased's parents have already left for Lucknow after the news of his death arrived to his family members on Wednesday. The local people said that Soham was a talented student but he talked very little. He did not mix with the local people. They also said that after completing his engineering course from the IIT Guwahati, he obtained a job with a multinational company but he later left the job as he wanted to pursue management course. He got an opportunity to study in IIM Lucknow.

It may be mentioned that Soham was found dead in his hostel room on Wednesday. The Lucknow Police said that they suspect he committed suicide as the door was locked from the inside. No suicide note was found. Preliminary investigation suggested that he might have committed suicide as he was either depressed or had a personal problem. Police also came to know that he had not taken any phone calls since Wednesday.

In a similar incident, a Class XII student of Viswa Bharati University was found hanging from the ceiling inside the hostel. The fellow students found that her room was locked from inside. The deceased has been identified as Rini Ghosh. Despite repeated knocks on the door, the boy did not open the door. Police broke open the door and found the boy's body hanging from the ceiling.
