IED lobbed at Sukhiapokhari police station, no casualties

Darjeeling: An IED was lobbed at the Sukhiapokhari police station in the wee hours of Thursday.
At around 1.30 am on Thursday, an Improvised Explosive Device similar to a hand grenade was lobbed at the police station. The grenade, however, hit the protection wall below the police station and fell on the road where it exploded.
Window panes of nearby houses were shattered along with parked vehicles being damaged. It is believed that the grenade was lobbed from a narrow alley opposite the police station. An investigation has been initiated by the police. Raids are on.
On August 19, there were twin blasts, one at Darjeeling and the other at the Kalimpong police station. In Kalimpong too, a hand grenade like IED was lobbed at the police station which left a civic police dead and a Home Guard personnel grievously injured. "Some people do not want normalcy to return. The Union Government has to take serious note of the situation. We have been repeatedly stating that the Maoists from Nepal are behind the violence. The GJM has to take responsibility as they are spearheading the agitation," remarked Goutam Deb, Tourism minister. The GJM has washed their hands off the incidents and have demanded a high-level inquiry by the INA supervised by a Judicial Officer in the incidents of explosions.
At around 11 pm on Wednesday night the Cinchona bark godown at Mongpu was set on fire. However, the godown was empty.
