ICU technician held in connection with death of 16-year-old

Kolkata: A few days after the arrest of an air-condition (AC) mechanic, now an ICU technician has been arrested in connection with the death of a Madhyamik examinee in an ambulance on his way to a hospital in Kolkata.
It may be recalled that the victim Arijit Das was a resident of Burdwan and he was admitted to Annapurna Nursing home after falling ill.
Doctors had, however, decided to shift him to a nursing home in Kolkata as his condition deteriorated.
The nursing home authorities had engaged an AC mechanic, Sarfarajuddin, saying that he is a doctor. Arijit died in the ambulance itself as Sarfarajuddin had allegedly failed to provide any treatment when his condition further deteriorated on way to the hospital in Kolkata. It raised suspicion of the victim's parents and they had reported it to police.
Policemen from East Jadavpur police station arrested Sarfarajuddin, who confessed that he is not a doctor instead he is an AC mechanic.
Police arrested three more in this connection after interrogating Sarfarajuddin.
On Thursday evening, police came to know about another member of the racket, Tafazzul Hossain. Tafazzul works as an ICU technician in another nursing in Burdwan. Policemen from East Jadavpur police station conducted raids at different nursing homes in Burdwan and finally arrested Tafazzul from Salimdanga in Jamalpur.
Police suspect that others are also involved in the racket and would interrogate Tafazzul to get whereabouts of others.
Cops are now trying to find out that in how many such cases the accused were involved.
They suspect that management of some nursing homes in the area were also involved in it and they had been supporting the accused in continuing with the "business of posing as doctors"
despite being AC mechanics or ICU technicians.
