Husband throttles wife to death over alleged affair, kills self

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a couple whose bodies were found inside their flat situated on the ground floor of an apartment at Subhas Colony under Barrackpore police station.

The locals alleged that the husband, Subhas Das (37), often engaged in quarrels with his wife Papia (35) over an alleged extra marital relation of the woman. The police came to know that the couple came to live in that apartment around four months back.

Papia, on Monday morning, dropped her three-year-old daughter to school and returned home after which nobody had noticed them to step out of the house. Later, the locals saw through the window that Papia was lying on the bed and her husband was hanging from the ceiling. The police reached the spot and broke open the front door to enter the house.

They recovered the two bodies and sent them for postmortem. According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the husband might have committed suicide after killing his wife. The injury marks that were found around her neck suggest that Papia was throttled to death. Police have started a detailed probe in the case.
