Husband murders wife after she found him stealing, held

A 24-year-old housewife was brutally killed by her husband after she found him stealing ornaments from her parental house where the accused had been staying for a while. The incident triggered tension in the locality.

The incident occurred at Mirjapur area under the Beldanga police station in Murshidabad late Wednesday night. Police arrested the accused husband Jamirul Seikh. The victim has been identified as Fatema Bibi. Police said that the accused had been living at his wife's parental house for the last four years. Regular quarrels used to take place between the couple as the husband did not have a job and used to stay at her house. Despite repeated pleas, the husband did not move to his own house situated in an adjacent village.

The woman had protested against the accused when he tried to steal some ornaments from the house when his mother-in-law was away. This had infuriated the accused so much that he took out a sharp weapon and slashed her. Their son Jahim Seikh told the police that he found his mother in a pool of blood with his father sitting beside the body . As the news spread, the local people rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. It was also learnt that the accused has admitted his crime in the face of interrogation.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced her brought dead. Police have started a detailed investigation in this connection. They are also investigating all possible angles into the incident.
