Howrah Police introduces app for women in distress

Kolkata: Howrah City Police introduced a smartphone application for woman in distress. On Wednesday, acting Commissioner of Police (CP), Howrah, Tanmay Ray Chaudhuri inaugurated the smartphone application.

After inauguration, acting CP informed that there is a SOS button in the application.

If any woman in distress touches the button, it will alert the police control room along with the mobile number and her location. To respond in such situations, a Quick Response Team (QRT) has been set up. This team will be kept on standby round the clock. Apart from this, two special teams styled as 'anti romeo' teams have been set up for North and South division. Each of the teams consist of 30 police personnel, who will keep vigilance in crowded areas in order to nab eve-teasers and criminals harassing women.

At present, Kolkata and Bidhannagar Police has their smartphone application.

Similar features are present in both the applications. While Kolkata Police's application is 'Bondhu', Bidhannagar Police's application is 'Bipad Sathi'.

But in these applications, not only women, any person can log in and seek police assistance anytime. These applications have the feature of lodging e-general diary. Bondhu application has some more added features.
