Howrah City Police to observe Road Safety Week from today

Kolkata: The Road Safety Week of the Howrah City Police is going to start from Wednesday.
In a bid to make people aware about road safety norms, the police have taken the initiative to organise the event and it will be undertaken keeping Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statewide campaign "Safe Drive Save Life".
The event will commence at Kona Truck Terminus on Wednesday morning. According to a senior official, the place has been chosen to organise the inaugural programme as hundreds of drivers remain present at the terminus and awareness can be created among maximum number of people.
The Howrah City Police has taken several initiatives during the Road Safety Week for the first time this year. There will be trauma care and first aid training for drivers during its Road Safety Week to save people who receive injuries in any road accident by drivers of passing by vehicles. The training programme will be provided on January 17 and 18 where around 50 policemen and 50 drivers will undergo the training.
Similarly, this is the first time when a street play based on "Safe Drive Save Life" will be presented during the Road Safety Week. A shopping mall on Foreshore Road has been chosen as the venue where the street drama will be performed. According to a senior police officer, the play will be performed to create awareness among group of people who frequent to the shopping mall. Members of a local club and an NGO will perform the play.
Later, the same play will be performed at different places to create awareness among people as an attempt to check road accidents.
Moreover, students from different schools in Howrah will participate in the Road Safety Week. They will be performing in different cultural events that will be organised to spread the message of road safety. All the police stations and traffic guards in Howrah will be observing the Road Safety Week in their respective areas. Students from schools in those areas will announce the road safety norms using public addressing system and they will also distribute candies and flowers to people while urging them to put on helmets while riding motorbikes.
