Housing dept to build hostels for working women in parts of city

Kolkata: In a bid to make safe and secure accommodation facility for working women easily available in the state, the state Housing department has taken up a project to set up hostels for them at certain parts of the city.
According to a senior official of the state Housing department, one working women's hostel is coming up near Tollygunge, while the other one will come up near Dum Dum Metro station.
Each of the two new hostels will be having accommodation facility for 60 working women. Construction work of the hostel near Tollygunge is near completion.
The work for the same on CN Roy Road near Dum Dum station is also going on in full swing to ensure fast completion.
The official said that the locations where the hostels are coming up are close to metro stations and so, it will be convenient for working women to reach them.
The state Housing department has recently developed a working women's hostel at Jadavpur. Moreover, two such infrastructures exist in Salt Lake. The working women's hostels in Salt Lake have been named as Swayambhara and Swayamsiddha. Women from various places come to work at Salt Lake and the hostels at Salt Lake have been of great help to them.
The officer said that the top brass of the department have also assessed the need of setting up the same in other urban parts in the state, where people from outside come to work.
The step has been taken so that working women do not face any problem when they go for work in other urban parts of the state.
If everything goes as planned, the department would also take up a project to construct hostels for working women at Jhargram, Haldia, Midnapore and Sagar.
Meanwhile, the state Housing department is also constructing two pump fire stations for the state Fire and Emergency Services department. One will come up at New Barrackpore, with the other one at Lalgarh.
