Housewife's body found hanging from ceiling

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was hanging from the ceiling inside her parental house at Sathmukhi village of Canning.

Police said that the victim, Sufia Laskar (19), returned to her parental house a few days ago following some ailments. On Sunday, the family members of the victim found that her room was locked from inside and she did not open the door despite repeated knocks on it. They informed the matter to the local residents and the police. The police broke open the door and found the body hanging from the ceiling. The incident triggered tension in the locality.

The body was sent for the post-mortem. Police did not, however, find any suicide note. According to preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide. They are yet to ascertain the reason. They are also investigating if anybody had instigated the victim to commit suicide.

Police said that the victim was married to a person from Natunhat area under Basanti police station around eight months ago. But few days ago, the victim came back to her parents' house. Police are investigating if she had any quarrel with anybody. In the course of the investigation, the police suspect that the victim might have been suffering from mental depression as a result of which she could have taken her life. The investigating officers are trying to ascertain the cause of her depression, if there was any. Police will also question the victim's husband and her in-laws.
