Housewife found hanging in Durgapur

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside her in-laws' house in Durgapur. Police have already arrested the victim's husband and four of his friends in this connection so far. They said that the victim Priyanka Sarkar (28) was married to Vivek Sarkar a few years ago.
According to the police, the victim had been staying at a residential apartment under NTPS police station of Durgapur. The local residents told police that Vivek had often engaged in quarrel with his wife, over some family-related dispute. A medical representative by profession, Vivek used to return home late. Sometimes, he was accompanied by his friends.
Some local residents spotted the victim hanging from the ceiling and informed the matter to the local police station. Police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body. According to a senior police officer, there were some injury marks on the back of her head, which suggest that she might have been hit with a heavy object.
Police are not ruling out the possibility that the woman was beaten to death and her body was later hung. They have started a detailed probe to ascertain the cause of her death.
