Highest ever pass percentage recorded

Kolkata: The results of the Madhyamik Examination 2019 set a precedence with the highest ever pass percentage in the history of the examination. The Board has been conducting the examination since 1983 and the pass percentage this year stood at 86.07, which is the highest ever. Students from schools in the districts made it to the top ten on the merit list. Sougata Das of Mahammadpur Deshpran Vidyapith topped the examination with 694 marks out of 700, whereas Soham Das of Jadavpur Vidyapith is the only student from Kolkata who made it to the top ten, with 681 marks. 51 candidates have figured in the first ten positions, according to the merit list prepared by WBBSE.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee lauded the students on Tuesday for their success. "Congratulations to all students who excelled and all those who took the Madhyamik exams. Good wishes to your parents, your teachers and good luck for all your future endeavours," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle.

This year's Madhyamik Examination has witnessed a significant rise of 12.56 percent in the number of female candidates appearing for the examination in comparison to their male counterparts. The total number of female candidates was 5,91,179, in comparison to 4,59,218 male candidates.

The number of female minority candidates appearing for the examination this year was also higher than their male counterparts. The number of female minority examinees was 1,71,679, while that of male candidates was 99,996.
