HIDCO to plan Sports City in Howrah's Dumurjala

Kolkata: Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) will plan the Sports City which is coming up at Dumurjala in Howrah.
A high-level meeting was held in Howrah last week to discuss the matter. Firhad Hakim, state Urban Development minister, Rathin Chakraborty, Mayor, Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC), Debashis Sen, chairman, HIDCO, along with senior officials of HMC, HIDCO and HIT were present.
Taking cue from the success of HIDCO in planning Gitabitan Township which is coming up at Shantiniketan on 100 acres of land, the state government has assigned it to do the planning of the proposed township.
The Sports City will come up on 60 acres of land near the Dumurjala Stadium. Work is on to renovate Dumurjala stadium by HMC. It will be opened after upgradation in a few months.
As per the state township plan, every township must have a theme. Six townships are coming up in Bengal. Apart from Gitabitan and Sports City, the others are Teesta in Siliguri on 51 acres of land, Agnibina in Asansol on 59 acres of land, Samriddhi in Kalyani on 50 acres of land and Uttam City in Baruipur on 89 acres of land.
A comprehensive plan will be chalked out to develop the areas surrounding the Dumurjala Stadium to entertain the spectators.
There will be proper pathway for the spectators to reach the stadium and bus stand. In the West, spectator management has become an important subject.
In the Sports City, there will be maximum use of renewable energy, green coverage will be more and there will be state-of-the-art solid waste management. HIDCO engineers visited the site and have started working on the preliminary plans.
