HIDCO to commence e-auction of 25 plots for HIGs this November

Kolkata: West Bengal Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation will commence the e-auction of 25 residential plots meant for Higher Income Groups (HIG) at New Town in November this year. This will be for the first time that the state government is going for e-auction of residential plots that are situated in Action Area II, adjacent to Eco Park gate number 3.
"75 plots in the same area were handed over to people in the month of June by lottery. There were more than 500 applications. However, some people had expressed their disappointment thinking that their luck had betrayed them. We thought that we will give them a chance in the 25 plots that will be on offer. The government will fix a minimum price and the person with the highest bid will get the land," a senior HIDCO official said.
The 25 plots that will be on offer in November are comparatively larger than those 75 plots that were allocated through lottery. "We have made plans to hand over two plots of land in a week through the e-auction mode," HIDCO chairman Debashis Sen said.
"E-auction for commercial plots is common but it has hardly been done for residential plots," an official of state Housing Department said. 75 plots to set up individual homes and housing complexes in New Town was distributed through a transparent lottery process in June. The lots were drawn by the participants in presence of judges.
Out of the 75 plots, individual houses will come up on 58 plots while housing complexes will come up in the remaining 17 plots. The plots that were handed over were for Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) as well as for HIG.
