Heroin worth Rs 1.6 lakh seized ahead of New Year, 2 held

Kolkata: Strict vigil on the part of the Narcotics Cell of Kolkata Police led to a major haul of heroin just ahead of the New Year.
Acting on a specific tip off, the police on Wednesday night apprehended two drug peddlers cum suppliers from Muchipara area and recovered some brown coloured powder in packets that seemed like heroine from the duo. The seized psychotropic substance has a market value of about Rs 1.6 lakh.
Police informed that the two peddlers have been identified as Puja Mondal alias Salma Bibi (20) of Khiristala in Subhasgram, South 24-Parganas and Nisha Bibi of Panchghara, in Subhasgram.
The duo, during their arrest from 18, Dixon Lane, at Muchipara in Central Kolkata, had nearly 400 grams of brown coloured powder in their possession, seemingly Heroin, in 3,275 separate multi-coloured wrappings or 'purias'.
Rs 2,500 in cash was also recovered from the two women. The duo were produced at a local court on Thursday and have been remanded to police custody till January 2, 2018.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata unit of Narcotics Control Bureau held a meeting with some leading night clubs and pubs in the city, to check the entry of drugs in these places.
It may be mentioned that the owners of the clubs, who attended the meeting, were shown how the give and take of these substances take place.
As many as 16 owners of pubs and night clubs were summoned, but only half of them attended the meeting. A few days ago, the NCB sleuths had seized a huge cache of high-grade Malana hasish and drugs such as LSD and Ecstasy, during a raid.
Five people, including the disc jockey of a posh night club in the Park Street area in South Kolkata were arrested.
As per NCB officers, the seized drugs were meant for use at rave parties that are clandestinely organised around Christmas and New Year. The arrest also included two college students.
