Heavy to very heavy rain forecast in state

Kolkata: The MeT department on Thursday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in all districts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the next five days kindling apprehension of flooding of low-lying areas.
The districts of north Bengal, which were affected by floods owing to extremely heavy rains in the third week of August, are again likely to experience heavy to very heavy precipitation till September three, the MeT department said.
Rainfall activity in the region is likely to reduce to heavy rains after September three, the weatherman said.
Cooch Behar recorded 110.2 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Thursday morning, the MeT department said.
Neighbouring Jalpaiguri recorded 66.8 mm precipitation during the same period.
The southern districts in Gangetic West Bengal are also likely to experience heavy rainfall till September two morning owing to a cyclonic circulation over southeast Bangladesh and its neighbourhood, the MeT said.
The metropolis, which did not receive any rainfall in 24 hours till this morning, is likely to remain cloudy with a few spells of rain in the next two days.
Other places in the state received very little or no rainfall during the period, the weatherman said.
