Heavy rain alert for S Bengal districts

Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in South Bengal districts this weekend induced by a low pressure trough in the Andaman Sea.

The weather office said the low pressure trough has formed in the Andaman Sea which will gain strength in the next couple of days.

According to weather officials, the low pressure trough may move towards East Central Bay of Bengal in the next two days after it intensifies.

The winter still remains elusive in the state with fresh prediction of heavy rainfall in the weekend.

The temperature may however dip after South Bengal districts receive rainfall.

"North-West wind is expected to bring winter chill in the state from the next week. Western districts in the state may first feel a sense of winter as the North-West wind will enter into the state. The low pressure will gain some momentum in the next couple of days bringing a moderate

to heavy rainfall in various South Bengal districts including the city," a weather official said. The temperature may drop by a few notches especially in the morning in the next few days and the sky will mostly remain clear.

The highest temperature in the next couple of days may hover around 32 degree Celsius while the lowest temperature may touch 22 degree Celsius.

Apart from Bengal, coastal districts of Odisha may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the weekend.

The city dwellers in the past few days have witnessed a fluctuating temperature resulting in illness among many people.

The people have been waiting for the winter to set in as it would provide some ease.

A fluctuating temperature often leads to out break of viral fever.
