'Heat' blows up explosives inside Birbhum club

Kolkata: A huge explosion took place inside a club at Mallarpur in Birbhum late on Saturday night.

It is alleged that huge quantities of explosive materials were stored in the club which exploded due to heat.

According to sources, a few members of Meghdoot Club in Mallarpur were watching cricket match inside the club. After the match ended they locked the club door and went back home.

Around 2 am, local residents woke up to a sound of blast. When they went out they saw the back portion of the club building had collapsed due to the blast. Also, the fire had broken out due to the explosion.

The police and fire brigade immediately were informed. Two fire tenders from Rampurhat fire station went to the spot and doused the flames. Police suspect that the explosives were stored inside the club with some ill motives by one or more club members. But the members have denied the allegations.

They demanded a high level inquiry in the incident.

On Sunday bomb squad of state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the spot and collected samples.

Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal alleged that the BJP is behind the blast as the club is managed by BJP workers. But the saffron party has denied the allegation.
