Hakim urges party workers to bolster organisation

Kolkata: In a bid to motivate party ranks ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha election, Mayor Firhad Hakim urged party workers to work on the field to strengthen the organisation.

He was addressing a meeting of party workers at the Shyampukur Assembly segment of the Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday afternoon. Shashi Panja, MLA from Shyampukur, was also present at the meeting.

Hakim said unless the organisation is strong, it will not be possible for any political party to work for the people. "Work for the people and the masses as that is the motto of Trinamool Congress," he told party workers. Without naming BJP, Hakim said: "There are political parties that do not work for the people. They come before the election and take recourse to tall talks. Trinamool is for the people, of the people and to the people."

The Mayor urged all the councillors to work seriously to ensure that party nominee Sudip Bandyopadhyay takes a lead from the ward. "Take this as your sacred duty and work intensely for the party," he said.

Recalling his long political career, Hakim said: "I have been into politics for the past three decades and started it during the Left Front regime. I have never been defeated as a councillor in Chetla because people of the area know that I am with them throughout the year. Whenever anyone in my area falls sick I go to the hospital or if there is any bereavement in any family I go to the burning ghat. Over the years, people of my area have seen me stand by their side."

He advised the party workers to build intense contacts with the people. "If you sincerely work for the people, it will give you mental satisfaction and people will keep faith in you," he added.
