Hakim inaugurates upgraded solid waste management system in Asansol

Kolkata: State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim inaugurated upgraded solid waste management system in areas under Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA), on Friday afternoon.

Inaugurating the project at Rabindra Bhavan, Hakim said because of high price of land, finding a trenching ground where the civic bodies can dispose of garbage has become difficult. The problem could not be solved by installing compactors either.

The only way to address the issue is segregation of garbage at source. There should be separate bins in the households for dry waste and wet waste. There should also be drives to make people aware of the new process.

"No project can be successful if the people's participation is poor. Whenever a new project is announced, the state government launches drives to create awareness among the people and see their participation, as the projects have been taken up for their benefit," Hakim said.

Cheering up Trinamool Congress workers, he said both Babul Supriyo and S S Ahluwalia have won the 2019 Lok Sabha election by "scientific rigging."

"In 2014, BJP had won the Asansol seat. Modi had come here and talked about depositing Rs 15 lakh in the account of every person and 'acche din'. In 2019, he did not mention the old issues and talked about Phulwama and war with Pakistan. People will one day understand the misinformation which BJP propagates," he said.

Hakim also urged TMC workers to stand by the people and launch movement against the fascism of the BJP government.
