'Guru Nanak's message of universal love has become more relevant in today's world'

Kolkata: The state government has proposed to set up a Guru Nanak memorial in the city, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing a gathering to celebrate the 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak.

Banerjee said that she would talk to Firhad Hakim, state minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, to find out a suitable plot near Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, where the memorial will come up. The Chief Minister said Guru Nanak's message of universal love is becoming more relevant in today's world, where division on the lines of religion, caste and creed are on the rise.

"Now the message of Nanak ji has become more relevant as it does not differentiate between people belonging to different castes, creeds and religions. Two of his close associates are Hindu and Muslim," she maintained.

She said that in order to strengthen the society, people should get inspiration from his message on universal brotherhood and service. "He considered that service to man was service to God and this message is required today to consolidate peace and harmony in our society," she added.
