Governor creating conflict with state govt unnecessarily: Chandrima

Kolkata: Trinamool Mahila Congress president Chandrima Bhattacharya on Wednesday requested Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to function "within the framework of the Indian Constitution".

Criticising the Governor, Bhattacharya, who is a well-known lawyer, said he is "trying to put on the coat of a political party and is unnecessarily creating conflict with the state government. He is going to the districts and like the Chief Minister, meeting the district officials."

Asked to comment on Constitution Day to be observed by the Governor, she said: "I do not know in what way he will observe it. He had celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had planted 70 saplings to mark the occasion."

Trinamool Congress MPs have already raised the issue on the floor of Rajya Sabha and brought it to the notice of the Union Home minister.

Bhattacharya said the state government will observe Constitution Day on November 26 and 27 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
