Girl's body found in lodge

Kolkata: The body of school student, aged about 16 years, was found inside a room in a tourist lodge at Kotulpur in Bankura. It is alleged that the girl came to the lodge with a youth identified as Sudip Das.

Das was not found in the lodge when the girl's body was recovered. According to a source, on Wednesday, Das and the girl had come to the lodge, which is located at Joyrambati in Kotulpur and rented a room.

While renting the room, Das said he lived at Goghat in Hooghly.

No one from the lodge saw them after they went to their room. Some staff in the

lodge felt something was wrong when they heard no sound from the room for very a long time. They informed the lodge manager Bachchu Nag, who found the door of the room was closed but not locked. When he entered the room he found the girl was lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Kotulpur police station was immediately informed. Police could identify the girl after they found an identity card from her bag.

Local residents started an agitation and they allegedly attacked Nag after the news of the recovery of the body spread in the area. It is alleged that the lodge was being used for illegal purposes and many other lodges in the area rent rooms to couples without properly checking their identities.

According to local residents, men and women are regularly seen entering the lodges after sunset. Police have not taken any action in this regard despite being informed about these activities.

After local residents agitated the police assured that steps would be taken to prevent malpractices at the

lodges. Police officers are trying to find the youth, who had come to lodge with the deceased girl.
