Girl found dead in Chetla guest house, boyfriend detained

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a student of private engineering college who had checked into a guest house at Chetla in South Kolkata on Sunday afternoon along with her boyfriend. The 22-year-old hailing from Liluah in Howrah and her boyfriend who hails from Shibpur were in a relationship for the last few months. The police have detained the victim's boyfriend for interrogation.
"We will conduct a post-mortem on Monday to assess the real cause of death. However, the preliminary opinion of the doctor has hinted at excessive bleeding from the victim's reproductive organ. Probably it was her first intercourse so that might have resulted in excessive bleeding. The victim was shocked to witness such excessive bleeding and that might have triggered the death," a senior police official involved in the investigation said.
According to police sources, the duo booked the guest house at Raja Santosh Road online and had checked in together at around 1.30 pm. They had booked room number 402 on the third floor of the guest house. At around 3.30 pm, the youth called an app-based cab and informed the guest house staff that the girl had suddenly fallen sick. He then took her to a private hospital at New Alipore. However, after the hospital insisted on calling up the police, he left immediately for MR Bangur Hospital with the girl. However, the 22-year-old girl who studied in a private engineering college in Dalhousie area, was declared brought dead there.
Doctors in the hospital along with the cops at the outpost started questioning the youth and after finding discrepancies in his statement informed the Chetla police station. The police rushed to the hospital and detained the youth for interrogation. The parents of the duo were informed and they reached the police station in the evening.
Further investigation revealed that both their parents were aware of the relationship.
"We have sealed the room and have also seized some samples from the room for the sake of investigation. There has been no complaints as yet, hence, we have lodged a case of unnatural death," an investigating officer said. The sleuths have also verified the details of the register of the hotel and have found that the duo had checked in with valid identity proof. Two of the guest house staff are also being quizzed by the police.
