Girl awarded by cops for identifying miscreant

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Monday awarded the 10-year-old girl whose description had helped the police in cracking the incident of daylight loot at Beliaghata in less than 48 hours. Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar awarded the prize to her at the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar.
A senior official of Kolkata Police said that the girl was gagged and her hands tied by the accused when he was alone at her Chaulpatty Road residence.
"Apart from the CCTV footage, the description of the girl helped us immensely in creating the accurate portrait parley of the accused and ultimately he was nabbed within a very short time. She had kept an extremely cool head and so we decided to award her," the official said.
The student of Class IV of Haryana Vidyamandir Sushma Das had informed the police that the accused was wearing an orange shirt, faded blue jeans, red shoes and had an handkerchief tied on his forehead. The CCTV footage matched accurately with the description provided by the girl.
"We awarded her for her courage and presence of mind," a senior police officer said.
When the little girl was asked what she would want to be when she grows up, she promptly replied that she wants to become an IPS officer.
The police have posted the picture of the event on their Facebook page.
