Giri addresses a rally in Hills after 3 years

Darjeeling: After more than three years Roshan Giri, General Secretary, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Bimal) made an appearance in the Dareeling Hills on Sunday and addressed a rally.

Seen as an attempt to test the ground in order to reclaim lost political territory, the rally is of immense significance to the Bimal faction, feel political observers. Giri claimed that a cordial relation with the State Government would result in the Permanent Political Solution being worked out within the ambit of the State of West Bengal.

The choice of Kurseong motor stand as a venue for the rally by the GJM (Bimal) on Sunday was closely calculated, feel observers. Incidentally Binoy Tamang and Anit Thapa had also taken over controls of the GJM in October 2017 from the same venue

with both Bimal and Giri absconding.

"Our cordial relation with the Mamata Banerjee Government is a political move. We want to see Mamata Banerjee as the Chief Minister for the third term. No one should support the BJP. They have betrayed us for the past 15 years. Except for false assurances they have given us nothing. Mamata Banerjee is straight forward. She lives up to her commitments. A permanent political solution can be worked out within the State" added Giri.

However, keeping the Gorkhaland dream alive, he was quick to state that the party will support whichever party supports the Gorkhaland issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, as statehood is a Central

subject.

Giri stated that Bimal Gurung will be arriving at Siliguri on December 6 where he will be addressing a mammoth rally. When quizzed on whether Gurung would be coming up to Darjeeling, Giri preferred to remain

sketchy.
