Gesture for elderly to make Pujas a special affair

Kolkata: In order to help the senior citizens,who cannot go for shopping due to ill health, a three-day pre puja fair will be organised at Swapno Bhor in New Town.

The three-day fair from August 15 to 18 will be inaugurated by Debashis Sen, chairman of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco), while the Chief Guest will be poet Subodh Sarkar.

Prasanta Maji, head of Swapno Bhor, said there would 30 kiosks, which will be put up on the first floor of Swapno Bhor building.

There will be stalls selling saris, kurtas, kurtis, costume jewellery, bed sheets and pillow covers, handcrafts, jute bags and room decorations.

There will be two stalls selling books and some food stalls. This is the third edition of the fair.

Hidco officials said the fair has become very popular among the senior citizens who are members of Swapno Bhor and they buy the items that are on display.

Swapno Bhor is the only state-run organization for the senior citizens.

There is huge lush green field covering an areas of three acres of land.

The two-storeyed building houses an auditorium, lounge, library and a coffee shop.

Indoor games for the members are held every year. Cultural programmes are held in the auditorium throughout the year and the members are taken out on annual tours.

The senior citizens do gardening with the help of an NGO where organic vegetables are grown. Snehodiya, a state of the art housing facility for the senior citizens, has come up near Swapno Bhor.
