Garia woman bitten by Tarantula, claims doctor

Kolkata: Scare of Tarantula spiders has reached the city with a woman getting admitted to a private nursing home in Garia after being bitten by a spider.
The woman identified as Putul Pailan was performing puja at her home when she was bitten. The family members of Putul claimed that the doctor said the latter was bitten by a Tarantula spider.
The insect had somehow stealthily crept inside the flowers kept for puja and as soon as the woman tried to pick up the flowers, she was bitten. The spider was killed and then brought to the nursing home along with the patient.
The woman, a resident of Rakshit More area, claimed that she lost sensation on her hand as soon as she received the bite. The scare of Tarantula has already reached the districts after a person died at Debra in West Midnapore in a suspected Tarantula spider bite.
The youth identified as Pintu Sahoo was admitted to Egra super specialty hospital on Sunday night and he succumbed to his injuries within hours. The insect has also been spotted in Mahisadal and Patashpur in Medinipur.
According to a forest department official, there are 100 types of Tarantula in the world. The big size insects are found in Africa, South America, some parts of Asia and Australia.
