Friend of youths mowed down by train yet to recover from trauma

Kolkata: Soumyadip Santra, a friend of two college youths who were mowed down by a speeding train while shooting a video on a cell phone on the railway track between Dum Dum and Belghoria station on Monday, are yet to recover from the trauma of the incident.
Santra, who was shooting the video on a mobile phone, had seen his two friends being run-over by a local train from up close and has spent a sleepless night on the hospital bed on Monday. He was taken to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with some injuries.
First-year college students Saisab Dolui and Sunil Tanti ended up losing their lives while they tried to shoot a video with a train in the background, police suspect according to the preliminary investigation.
Both the victims were 19-years-old and students of Bhairab Ganguly College in Belgharia. The deceased youths were residents of Patbari Lane in Panihati, North 24-Parganas.
Santra told the police that Dolui and Tanti were shooting a short film and asked him to record a video of them on the railway tracks.
Dolui and Tanti were sitting on the tracks, conversing with each other, while Santra started recording their conversation.
Neither of them had noticed a Down Naihati-Budge Budge train coming towards them along the same tracks.
Santra was the only one who had noticed the approaching train and jumped out of the tracks while the other two did not have the scope to save their lives. Police have started a probe in this regard.
