Four persons including two B'deshis held with 206 smartphones

Kolkata: The Detective Department (DD) of Kolkata Police has arrested four persons including two Bangladeshi nationals and recovered 206 stolen smartphones at Jorasanko and Chandni Chowk areas. Later, the police came to know a few of the smartphones were brought from Gujarat and several phones were to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

According to police, on Wednesday morning, officials from Watch Section of DD got information about illegal dealing of smartphones in the vicinity of Moonlight cinema hall in Jorasanko. Based on the information police raided the place and detained two persons identified as Bikash Jaiswal Beliaghata and Rajesh Bhagat of Dum Dum. From there possession police recovered 153 stolen smartphones which were brought from Gujarat through a Kolkata-based courier service. Those smartphones were to be delivered to a person namely Sameer in Kidderpore area.

Police also came to know that several more stolen smartphones were in two person's possession in Chandni Chowk area. Based on the information, police raided a place near Moonlight cinema hall and detained two persons identified as Abdul Monaim Rahi and Ahmed Sami of Sylhet in Bangladesh. Fifty-three more stolen smartphones were recovered from them. During investigation it was found that Jaiswal Bhagat are the carriers of stolen smartphones. Rahi and Sami had procured 53 stolen smartphones in order to smuggle those to Bangladesh for the purpose of selling. Two separate cases have been lodged against the accused persons at Jorasanko and Bowbazar police station on charges of committing theft.
