Four killed in two separate road accidents in state

Kolkata: Four persons were killed in two separate road accidents in the state.
The first incident occurred at the Bidhan Sarani and Muktaram Babu Crossing in the wee hours on Tuesday. Police said that a motorbike collided head on with a Tata 407 a little after 12.30 am.
Samir Mondal (30) who was riding the bike with Sanjib Singh (27) on the pillion were killed in the accident. None of the bikers were wearing helmets.
Both the victims were residents of K C Sen Street. After the accident police took the injured victims to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where Samir was declared brought dead while his friend Sanjib succumbed to his injuries later at around 2.30 am. According to the doctors both the victims suffered multiple injuries on their bodies in the accident.
Police managed to arrest the driver of the Tata 407 and seized the vehicle.
The motorbike which was badly damaged due to the impact of the accident was also seized by the police. Police came to know from local residents that both the bike and the Tata 407 were running at high speed when the accident happened.
Police were also investigating if the bikers or the Tata 407 driver was in an inebriated state.
A probe has been initiated on the basis of a specific complaint lodged at the Girish Park police station.
In another accident, two persons were killed and another injured when a minidor they were travelling in collided head first with a truck. Police are yet to ascertain the identities of the victims.
The accident took place near Chanditala in Hooghly on the Durgapur Expressway on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the deceased are the driver and the helper of the minidor.
Police said that the city-bound minidor coming from Burdwan lost control and hit the truck head on which was parked by the side of the road. The driver and the helper of the vehicle died on the spot while the injured victim was taken to a private nursing home in Dankuni.
