Four killed, 30 injured in four separate road accidents

Kolkata:Four persons were killed and 30 others including two police personnel have been injured in four separate road accidents in the state.
The first incident took place in South 24-Parganas' Diamond Harbour on early Sunday morning when three youth riding a motorcycle were hit by a truck and eventually got charred after the bike caught fire. Police said the victims identified as Badal Mondal, Bapan Haldar and Rakesh Mondal were riding a motorcycle when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bikers.
The incident took place near Jetighat area. Immediately, after the accident the bike caught fire as a result of which the bikers suffered burn injuries.
Locals rushed to the spot and sent the injured victims to Diamond District Hospital where they were declared brought dead by the doctors. A fire tender was pressed into action to douse the flames.
The bike was completely damaged in the fire. According to preliminary investigation, police said the bikers received critical injuries. As the bike caught fire immediately after the accident, the victims hardly had any chance to escape.
Police are examining if the victims were in inebriated state.
They are conducting raids to nab the truck driver who had fled the spot along with the vehicle.
Another accident that had occurred in Sukantanagar area claimed the life of a 22-year-old youth. Police said the victim, Sonai Pal was heading towards Salt Lake from Chingrighata on his motorcycle on Sunday morning when he hit a divider. Pal received serious injuries in the accident.
The Locals rescued and sent him to Bidhannagar Sub-divisional hospital where he was pronounced brought dead. Police said the bike was a new one and it had no number plate. Police suspect that the accident might have taken place due to over-speeding.
The third incident took place near the CRPF camp in New Town where two policemen were injured after the bike they were riding hit a divider.
They have been undergoing treatment in the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional hospital.
While in another incident, 30 passengers have been injured, five of them critically ill after the bus they were travelling in overturned in West Midnapore's Daspur. Police said that Midnapore bound private bus hit a road side tree and overturned after the driver lost control over the vehicle due to some technical problem.
