After the cops recovered the body and fished it out from the water, they found several injury marks on the youth's abdomen and an injury on the head, which was probably inflicted with a blunt and heavy object. Later the youth was identified as Nauser (35) of Cigarette Kol area under jurisdiction of West Port police station.

During the investigation, police officials came to know that there was a conflict between the prime accused, identified as, Raj Mortaza of Dent Mission Road over a financial transaction worth Rs 50 lakh.

As Nauser was not returning his money, Mortaza decided to kill him. He asked three local youths to help him to murder Nauser.

Early on Friday morning they again boarded the car and reached the bank of Ganga in Nadial around 6:15 am. After reaching the spot, all five of them consumed liquor. While having their drinks, all of a sudden Mortaza hit Nauser on his head with a brick. Though Nauser died immediately after being hit, Mortaza and other accused person used a shaving razor to inflict injuries on Nauser's chest and abdomen to make sure that he died.

Following that Mortaza and others threw Nauser's body in to Ganga and at that time local residents saw them.
