Four arrested with more than 9kg opium

Kolkata: Kolkata Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau arrested four persons from Ranigunj and seized more than nine kg of opium from them on Thursday.

According to Narcotics Control Bureau officials, on Thursday, sleuths got a tip-off that a few persons will strike a deal in narcotics in Ranigunj.

Based on the tip-off, NCB sleuths reached Ranigunj and were waiting for the narcotics carriers at a point. In the afternoon, two suspects identified as Arun Kumar and Birbal Kumar arrived in Ranigunj riding a SUV bearing registration number of Jharkhand. When the source indicated towards the car, Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths blocked their way with their car and detained the duo.

Immediately the car was searched and sleuths found opium wrapped in plastic-sheets hidden inside the SUV. Immediately they were arrested. During interrogation, the duo confessed that they got the opium from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and were about to deliver the consignment to a person identified as Ashok Singh in Ranigunj. On the basis of the duo's statement, sleuths raided the house of Ashok in Ranigunj. NCB sleuths apprehended Ashok and his son Vikram for having connection with the racket.

It is suspected that the mastermind of the racket is operating from somewhere else other than Jharkhand and Bengal. Sleuths are trying nab other members of the racket.
