Foul smell leads to discovery of elderly's body in Bansdroni

Kolkata: The death of an elderly woman in Bansdroni on Wednesday morning triggered tension the area. According to the police, on Wednesday morning, residents of Gitanjali apartment and people in the neighbourhood of Bansdroni Park sensed a foul smell in their area.

When some of them tried to find the source of the smell, they found that it was coming from the flat of Keka Mukherjee. Bansdroni police station was informed.

The police found the door of Mukherjee's flat was locked from inside. Later, police personnel broke the door and found the body was decomposed state lying on the sofa in the drawing room.

The police suspect that Mukherjee had died at least two days ago. Apparently no injury mark was found on the body and no suicide note was recovered.

After sending the body for autopsy examination, the police came to know from local residents that Mukherjee used to live alone in the flat. Mukherjee has a brother who stays somewhere else.

The police have managed to get his mobile number. Investigators are trying to contact him.

Primarily, an unnatural death case has been lodged at the Bansdroni police station. Earlier, on Monday night, a similar incident took place at Sreebhumi in Lake Town, where an elderly lady died mysteriously. The lady lived with her mentally-ill son. Local residents had experienced a foul smell emanating from a house. The woman was found dead and the body had started decomposing.
