Forum to hold marathon to back gender neutral laws

Kolkata: A unique marathon to support the demand for gender-neutral laws in the country will be held in New Town on February 17.

The marathon will start from near New Town Business Club and the participants will cover a distance of 5 km. The event will be organised by the Forum for Social Justice and Development.

President of the forum Nandini Bhattacharjee said 270 people had already confirmed their participation for the marathon online.

This apart, there will be representatives from NGOs, who are working on human rights and issues pertaining to men's rights. Bhattacharjee said there is a demand to frame gender-neutral laws all over the country.

Also, the issues pertaining to men are getting highlighted all over the country and across the world, she said.

In this backdrop the marathon is important as it will create awareness among the people.

It may be mentioned that the forum is holding meetings all over the city and eastern India to pursue its demand to highlight issues related to men and gender-neutral laws.

Bhattacharjee said representatives of many feminist groups would also take part in the marathon and support the initiative .
