Former constable held for duping job seeker

Kolkata: A former police constable has been arrested at the Muchipara police station on Sunday evening for allegedly duping a job seeker worth Rs 3 lakh. One person was arrested in this connection on July 17.

According to sources, the accused person identified as Jayanta dutta used to work in the Reserve Fore (RF) of Kolkata Police in the rank of constable. Due to some of his work which was against the police service rules, Dutta was dismissed from police service on October 23 in 2006.

On July 17 this year, a youth lodged a complaint stating that he has been cheated by some persons by promising job in Kolkata Police. On the same day, the police arrested a person identified as Utpal Roy. During the interrogation, Roy stated that Dutta is behind the plan and they were targeting job seekers in order to cheat them by promising jobs against money. Since then police were searching for Dutta but failed to trace him. After a few days, the case was taken up by the Detective Department of (DD) Kolkata Police. On Sunday evening, officials of DD came to know from their sources that Dutta has been seen shopping at the South City mall. Immediately, a team was sent to nab Dutta. Jadavpur police station was also informed.

After searching the floors of South City mall, the police arrested Dutta at the mall with assistance from Jadavpur police station. It is also alleged that Dutta had taken money from several youths by promising jobs. However, the police are trying to locate other job seekers who have been duped by Dutta and his associates. Also, the amount of cheated money is suspected to go up. Dutta is being interrogated to know who else are linked to the cheating racket.
